San Diego Market Report 10/07/26
Less Sweating. More Preparing.
Everyone’s complaining about the heat, and I get it. October should not require a negotiation with your thermostat. But I’m more concerned about whether our homes are ready for the rain winter could bring.
San Diego County is preparing for potential El Niño flooding and storm damage. This week’s heat doesn’t tell us how severe winter storms will be, but the possibility of a wetter season makes now a good time to prepare.
San Diego could use the rain. Your living room could not.
Here are five simple steps to get ready:
- Clear the path. Clean gutters, downspouts and outdoor drains so water can flow freely.
- Check where water goes. Look for pooling near your foundation or garage. Make sure downspouts direct water away from your home.
- Inspect the roof. Have a qualified professional check damaged tiles, worn flashing or signs of leaks before the rain arrives.
- Review your insurance. Ask your insurance agent what your policy covers for flooding and other water damage.
- Get storm supplies ready. Gather flashlights, medications and essentials. Sign up for emergency alerts and find nearby sandbag locations through the county’s preparation hub.
My advice: handle small concerns while they’re still small. If you’re planning to sell, addressing water issues now can also help prevent surprises during inspections.
