Discover San Diego's Wild Side: A New Documentary on Our Biodiverse Backyard
San Diego is not only "America's Finest City," but according to a new PBS documentary, it's also "America's Wildest City." Debuting tonight at 8 p.m., "Nature — San Diego: America's Wildest City" takes viewers on a journey through our county's unparalleled biodiversity. This 52-minute film will also arrive on the giant screen at the San Diego Natural History Museum on November 22, giving locals and visitors a breathtaking view of our unique ecosystems.
With San Diego's blend of beaches, mountains, deserts, and urban landscapes, it's no wonder our region is the most biologically diverse county in the continental U.S. The documentary showcases native species like Western grebes, Allen's hummingbirds, and Pacific harbor seals — wildlife that has not only adapted to urban life but often relies on our city's resources to thrive. It's a reminder that our everyday surroundings are teeming with life, from playful dolphins along our shores (something I experienced firsthand just a few weeks ago!) to vibrant wildflowers in Anza-Borrego.
This documentary isn't just a nature film; it's an invitation for the world to see San Diego as an exceptional place to live, where every resident can experience these natural wonders up close. In an uncertain time, stories like these highlight what makes our city such a particular home.
Have you had your own encounters with San Diego's amazing biodiversity? I'd love to hear about them!
